What is biofeedback therapy?

We don’t usually think much about how we go to the toilet - but normal bowel motion actually relies on precisely timed muscle movements and coordination.

When this gets disrupted, it can lead to functional bowel disorders, such as chronic constipation (poor coordination), incontinence (weakness), or rectal pain (muscle spasm).

Biofeedback therapy helps retrains these muscles. Using real-time visual feedback, it allows you to see how your bowel muscles are working and then guides you through targeted exercises to restore normal function. Clinical trials have shown biofeedback provide to long-term improvements in up to 87% of cases.

Traditional biofeedback is only available in a few hospitals, where long waitlists and high costs can make it hard to access. A full course of therapy usually takes 6 to 8 weekly sessions, and patients often end up spending over $1,000, not just on the therapy itself, but also on parking, tolls, transport, taking time off work, and childcare.

Home biofeedback is a more convenient, private, and affordable option. On average, it saves patients around $800 and 20 hours of travel time. Best of all, it fits into your schedule so you can do the therapy when and where it works best for you and it offers the same benefits as in-clinic treatment.

Why home biofeedback matters
