Amazing Gut exists to protect that dignity - for the millions of people who live with bowel problems they've never felt able to talk about.
Why we started this
In Australia alone, 4.5 million people [1] live with a functional bowel disorder, constipation or incontinence that goes far beyond physical discomfort. It affects confidence, relationships, and the ability to simply leave the house without worry.
For over a decade, our founder diagnosed functional bowel disorders at Camden Hospital's GI Motility Clinic. Biofeedback, physiotherapy for the bowel, was the gold-standard, first-line treatment for these conditions. It works. But fewer than 1% of patients [2] ever get access to it, because it's only available in a handful of specialist clinics, with long waitlists and repeated hospital visits.
Two patients made that gap impossible to ignore:
Sharon
Wanted to attend her daughter's wedding overseas, but feared her faecal incontinence would stop her. She was on a nine-month waitlist for treatment.
Ellen
Uses a wheelchair, and needed two carers and specialised transport just to attend a single hospital appointment. In-clinic therapy simply wasn't realistic for her.

A treatment that works for the overwhelming majority of patients, that almost none of them could actually get. That's the problem Ins&Outs was built to solve.

FROM OUR FOUNDER
From the clinic, to the lab, and back again
I started out building diagnostic technology, a lab-on-a-chip for colorectal cancer, during my PhD at the University of Sydney. That's where I fell in love with translational research: taking an idea out of the lab and putting it into a patient's hands.
A postdoctoral role at Western Sydney University gave me a rare opportunity: the chance to build a research lab alongside A/Prof Vincent Ho, while also treating patients directly at the Camden Motility Clinic. Splitting my time between the clinic and the lab meant I could see a real problem on a Monday, and start working on it by Tuesday.
Wanting more than a clinician's-eye view, I got involved with patient advocacy groups, including Australian Rotary Health, OCAGI and Gastroparesis Australia. Those conversations, and later work leading clinical trials for gut-health companies like Alimetry, Atmo Biosciences, Nestlé Health Science and Nutricia/Danone, shaped how I think about what patients actually need, not just what the research says they need.
Ins&Outs came from plain frustration. I knew biofeedback worked. I watched patients struggle to complete it anyway - not because it failed them, but because our clinic simply didn't have the capacity to deliver it consistently, and getting to appointments was its own battle. In 2020, we went looking for a home biofeedback device to send patients home with. We couldn't find one that met a clinical standard. So we built one ourselves.
